Bicycle Adventures:
I’ve met, read about and heard of hundreds of people who’ve explored countries, continents and the entire World on two wheels. Here is a list of just some of the websites I’ve looked at over the years.
- Alvaro Neil Spanish cyclist better known as the ‘Cycling Clown’. Alvaro is on a 10-year World tour.
- Andrew and Friedel Grant This Canadian couple have a well-organised website with great practical information about cycling in different countries.
- Bill Weir American cyclist I met on the road in southern China. Bill has completed many tours and provided a lot of information and advice to me over the last few years. His recent tours can be found on the Crazy Guy On A Bike website
- Claude Marthaler aka the Yakman. A well known name amongst cycle tourers in Switzerland. Great photographer and an early inspiration for me.
- Daisuke Nakanishi Japanese cyclist on the road for over 10 years. I only discovered his multi-lingual website towards the end of my trip. A great site with impressive photos.
- Edward Genochio Englishman who cycled from UK-China, and back again.
- Eric and Amaya Cycling around Africa. A great resource for anyone planning a tour on the continent.
- Heinz Stucke The Grandaddy of cycle tourers. A remarkable story - and he’s still going!
- Janne Corax Extreme Adventure cyclist/mountaineer. Janne has traversed Tibet in all directions. Real inspiration for mountain lovers.
- Nicolai Bangsgaard Danish cyclist on a 4-year World trip. Nice photos and website.
- Paul van Roekel and Anja de Graaf Dutch couple with many years cycling experience. Great site with loads of information and photos.
- Rob Lilwall Englishman who started his 3-year trip with Alastair Humphreys. Rob’s trip included cycling through a Siberian winter and across Afghanistan.
- Rob Luxton Englishman circumnavigating China on a 3-wheeled Recumbent.
- Scott Stoll There aren’t many American cyclists touring the World. This guy spent 4 years on the road and wrote a book about it.
- Stephen Lord Author of Adventure Cycle-Touring Handbook. Useful guide for planning a tour. Stephen recently finished cycling from Istanbul-India.
- Tim and Cindy Travis American couple on the road for over 5 years.
- Tom Allen and Andy Welch Two Englishmen on World tours.
- Tom Davies aka ‘The Hungry Cyclist’. Englishman who cycled through the Americas on a gastronomic quest.
- Michael Sitarz Polish cyclist with a lot of experience of touring in Europe.
- Aaldrik and Sonya Dutch/Australian couple on a 5-year World tour. Very comprehensive site. Well updated with great list of links and country info.
African Bicycle Adventures:
- Eric and Amaya Cycling around Africa. A great resource for anyone planning a tour on the continent.
- Helen Lloyd: Taking on Africa with a similar route to mine.
- Huw Williams and Bex Sumner Cycling through Africa and recording its sounds.

- Crazy Guy On A Bike Inspiration and ideas for anyone planning a cycle tour. This is a directory of thousands of touring journals, including MINE.
- Trentobikes Another great directory of cycle touring journals.
- Bike China Website containing many travelogues on cycling in China.

- Lonely Planet Forum Useful place to get travel related information and advice for cycle touring Worldwide.
- CTC Forum Another great source of information.
- Cycle Chat One more lively and useful forum.

- Warm Showers Need a bed for a night on tour and want to meet other cyclists? Look no further. I used this to stay with people in Europe.
- Cycle Tourer Well organised and detailed site dedicated to many aspects of cycle touring.
- Fully Loaded Touring Great photo gallery of touring bikes.
- Tim Barnes Useful website containing many travelogues and practical information about touring.
Other Adventurers:
- Alaistair Humphreys Englishman who made a 4-year World trip by bicycle and recently published 2 books about it. I keenly followed his progress leading up to the start of my ride. Alaistair is now preparing for a his next adventure.
- Jason Lewis Completed the first human-powered circumnavigation of the World.
