Axis of Evil tour comes to an end

Long distance cycle trips seem to be getting more popular, and adventurous. Dan Martin recently rolled into Cape Town after a 24,000 mile ride that started in South Korea. His journey took him across Asia and down the West African coast. At one stage it looked like we might meet in North Africa. He couldn’t get a visa for Libya however and flew from Egypt to Spain.

The trip was dubbed the ‘Axis of Evil tour’ as it included north Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan, although he only cycled in the latter. The most astounding aspect of the trip was that he did it all in only 440 days. It probably explains why his diary was rarely updated and he suffered from physical exhaustion. An impressive trip nonetheless, particularly as the story in yesterday’s Times Online states that he doesn’t like bikes!
