What to pack for a long distance bike tour? There is no definitive list. What one person packs will differ from another, based on a whole range of factors including location, length of travel and individual perceptions of what is considered necessary and or justifiable to carry.
That all said, with a few years of long distance bike travel experience, the list here is what I have been carrying for the past year while cycling in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, East Africa and most recently Greece. I feel it is more or less what I would carry on a tour lasting anywhere from a month to a year or more, plus/minus the addition of clothing depending on season and temperature. It is by no means ultralight; I carry a 2-person tent and a camp chair, plus various electronic equipment that others might not. It is also not nearly as heavy nor bulky as some of the loads I see people carrying.
The total weight of luggage on the bike itself (minus food and water) is currently around 15.3kg at the time of writing here in Africa, with the bike weighing an additional 16kg or so. The hip bag, containing my camera, drone and passport is an additional 1.5kg.
